Bukit Larut is the smallest hill resort in Malaysia that has been gazetted as a forest reserve since 1990 and is famous for its lake gardens.
Formerly known as Maxwell Hill that was named after Mr. William Edward Maxwell, one of the British Assistant Resident of Perak, this hill station was built as a relaxing and cool retreat for colonial officials.
Bukit Larut is the oldest hill station which was founded in 1884. Located nearby is the Taiping Zoo, Night Safari, the war cemetery, museum and its beautiful lake gardens.
